Transport & Travel

Reykjavik itself is small and fairly easy to explore on foot, it is about the size of Bath.

Transfers to Hotel Ranga in Hella to the ceremony and then back for the reception and finally back to Reykjavik will all be provided.

Plane: Flights to Keflavík are available with Icelandair from Glasgow, Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester. easyJet from Bristol, Edinburgh, Luton, Manchester and now also Gatwick. WOWair from Gatwick.

Mitchell and Steph flew with Icelandair from Heathrow in 2011 and found them to be excellent; 32-inch leg room, excellent in-flight entertainment. They fly twice daily from Heathrow and you should be able to get return flights for next April from about £230. Many packages in hotels outside of the city centre or by the airport, sometimes with a trip whale watching or to see Northern Lights, can often be found online for around £300.

On Sunday 12th direct flights from Keflavík to Gatwick (1610), Heathrow (1610) and Edinburgh (2000) are realistically doable.

Update: 3rd September

EasyJet flights from Gatwick to Keflavík are now on sale. They fly out on Monday 6th (Easter Monday) at 0735 and the same time on Thursday £39. Returning on Monday (1030) to Gatwick is £28.

Update: 15th November

Many people have booked flights from Gatwick or Heathrow for Thursday to Monday. We are aiming to be back in Reykjavik by 1400 which may make things tight for those departing around 1600. Direct transfers from Ranga can be arranged for anyone who is concerned.

Icelandair flights during this week from Heathrow have dropped to £155 return (for now).

Bus: Transport from the airport to Reykjavik takes around 45 minutes. We strongly advise that you prebook with FlyBus (or similar) that tie in with flight arrivals from the UK. These can drop you at Downtown Reykjavik Apartments on request and cost around £12 / £13 per person.

A taxi will cost in excess £80 if you are arriving late to Keflavik.

Transfers from Reykavik to Hella take around 80 minutes. Public transport is limited so we have booked a coach for Friday and return on Sunday.
